Girls, join us for a day of fun, learning and connecting with a bunch of like-minded chicks in Nelson Bay where you will learn how to hunt for lobsters, how to find and harvest abalone, and the whole process all the way up until cooking!

We're so excited for this event and to connect you all to each other! Everyone is welcome no matter what your freediving experience is. 

Location: Nelson Bay (exact meeting location will be sent in an email closer to the date to work best with the weather forecast)
Start Time: 8:00am
Finish Time: 2pm approx.

What's Included:

  • Workshop on where to find lobster/abalone, what to look for, legal size limits, gear required, and how to successfully grab them yourself. This workshop will be run before we get in the water so you're prepared!
  • 2 hour group shore dive. Look for and practice grabbing lobster & abalone
  • Post dive, you will be shown how to store lobster & abalone correctly, how to humanely kill a lobster, followed by a catch & cook so you know how to prepare each
  • Fish filleting workshop - Learn how to fillet a fish 
  • Included is gloves, your own lobster measurer & catch bags

Who can come?
Everyone is welcome, You do not need to have completed a freediving course to come!
You must be a confident and strong swimmer and be able to swim 200m unaided.

All you need is to purchase your own NSW fishing licence prior to getting in the water if you intend on grabbing your own lobsters. 3 Day passes are available to purchase from dpi.nsw.gov.au for $7

What to bring

  • Warm wetsuit (5mm wetsuit is best, 4/3 long arm, long leg steamer at minimum)
  • Mask & snorkel
  • Weight belt and weights (extra weights than normal for shallow water diving)
  • Fins
  • Dive knife OR a butter knife (for harvesting Abalone)

No freediving gear?

Freediving Course FAQ's

What experience do I need?

As long as you can comfortably swim, you have everything you need to join this course!

Relax while our experienced instructor guides you through everything you need to know to begin your freediving journey.

What happens if the weather is poor?

If we deem the weather conditions (swell and wind) to be unsafe or unsuitable for freediving, we will either change the location or reschedule.

If we have to reschedule the course, you will be given an alternative date to choose from.

Our top priority is safety, followed by ensuring you have the best possible experience.

What happens if you need to cancel your spot?

$50 of the booking is non-refundable.

If you cancel at least 5 days out from the event, you will receive a $100 refund.

If you cancel within 5 days from the event, you will not be refunded.
